Lucy and Steve Sinclair move into their dream home in Washington DC. They’re young, successful and expecting their first child. But within one month their world will implode. Steve becomes sick, disappears and is found dead and Lucy’s baby will be born needing life-saving cardiac surgery. Lucy is then falsely accused of killing her husband in the most public of forums by her very own Judas - a man who she once called her very best friend. And all because of a chance find, hidden in the darkest and deepest recess of their attic. Why has life suddenly turned so sour? Lucy’s only clue is a torn and scribbled note, citing ‘Matthew 1344,’ which she finds on her husband’s desk. Given he’s a non-believer, like her, this makes no sense. He’s never even held a Bible in his life. Soon condemned by the very people who should be supporting her, Lucy must discover and expose the real perpetrators. In doing so, it becomes hard to know who she can trust. Alone and in the midst of this chaos, a chance lifeline is thrown, tethered to a stranger; a man she has never met but feels blissfully familiar with, who helps her discover her true purpose in life, and how - like the very Passion itself - ultimate good can come from the very worst of circumstances.

Once I started reading this. Book, it was difficult to put it down. It deals with mystery, loss, illness, death, birth, false accusations, God, misunderstandings--all kinds of issues that make this a compelling read. Good character development, good lead character in Lucy. Just when you think you have identified the culprits, you discover another twist. It's not a heavy mystery book, yet it keeps you interested and guessing. Because it's written in British English, the grammar, punctuation, and slang usage can be challenging--yet delightful sometimes (my heritage is British). I enjoyed this book very much and unhesitatingly recommend it to any audience.Product details

Matthew 1344 Scott Coren 9780692256763 Books Reviews
Exciting, full of twists and turns, well written and researched. I loved knowing the author's story due to an interview that lead me to the book! An ex activist atheist that becomes filled with the Holy Spirit, makes an intelligent case for God. Does not get any better!
I enjoyed the book. It was one I read in 2 sittings, which is rare for me. I gave it a 4 only because some parts seemed far fetched. Would I recommend it...yes.
I purchased this book after hearing an interview with the author. He sounded like someone I wanted to support. I enjoyed the book. It has a positive ending.
What a good book! From page one, I was hooked. I needed to know how the mystery would be solved, how dear Lucy would pull it all together, how the baby could grow up, and whether there would be justice. Along the way, I learned a lot about some basic things--how we breathe, how the heart works, how people scheme to create wealth, and how we find resilience and guidance. And, then, when I was finished reading, I wondered about the meaning of it all. What a joy! Rita
The lead character's struggle pretty much mirrors our own. It never rains but it pours for her, and thats how it is for most people i think. Her story is like Christ's Passion. She gets knocked down, she gets up, she gets knocked down again. Would really recomend. It also has enough twists and turns to keep even the most die hard atheist glued." Walter T
Loved the book, could hardly put it down. An awful lot of coincidences in the resolution, though, which is why I gave it four stars, not five.
If you enjoyed the Shack, then you'll love this. Both touch on why if there's a God, He allows bad things to happen? My opinion is that this book manages that discussion better, and comes to a much more substantial conclusion. It is also well written with an intriguing plot, and works on a few levels. One of which is that unlike other 'Christian fiction' novels, Matthew holds firm to the Bible, and so quotes scripture at times to make a point in the story. I like that because the author has not fallen into the temptation of bringing in anything New Age or Eastern, which i have long felt spoils many of the books and movies which have been coming out lately.
